Our Instructors:

Lianne Gamble was first introduced to Pilates at a young age through the study of ballet in Southern California. After many years of studying dance she began her professional dance career at age 17. After dancing throughout the states and overseas, she found herself injured from the physical demands of her job. Frustrated with traditional therapy, she took the advice of other dancers and went back to Pilates to rehabilitate her body. The success she found through the Pilates method fed her desire to teach and help others. At the end of her dance career in Las Vegas she began to work closely with a physical therapy team and the dancers and acro teams in Las Vegas teaching the benefits of Pilates for prevention. As that caught on in Las Vegas she began to work as a teacher trainer for the UNLV certification team. Lianne has taught classes throughout the US including the “Luxor” dancers in Las Vegas as well as conditioning the dancers for the 2000 Super Bowl in Atlanta. In 2001 Lianne moved to Gig Harbor, Washington to open her first Pilates studio. Two years later she opened a second location in University Place, Washington and in 2009 another location in the “Old Town” district of Tacoma, Washington. She teaches many workshops including Pregnancy and Pilates, Myofacial Release on the foam roller and integrating cardio with Pilates. In 2005 Lianne met Master Teacher, Rael Isacowitz, founder and director of the world renowned Body Arts and Science International (BASI) at a conference in Santa Clara, CA. At that time she fell in love with his teaching style and received her certification with BASI. A year later she felt the need to have all her instructors BASI certified and started hosting BASI teacher training programs at her Gig Harbor studio. After two years of studying and practicing the BASI method, Lianne was able to study under Rael and the BASI team. Lianne now is a proud BASI faculty teacher, training throughout the United States and overseas the BASI technique to others. Lianne is constantly learning new techniques to pass on to her clients and students. She strives to aid others in reaching their own goals. Whether it’s physical fitness, teacher training or rehabilitation, the Pilates Body Movement Studio encompasses it all.

Wendy Ballard, a native of California, holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts/Dance from Sonoma State University as well as a lifetime California Community College Credential. Formerly the director and co-founder of the San Francisco Jazz Dance Company, she has concentrated her work on the west coast establishing herself as a respected teacher and choreographer. She has studied in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco where she has trained in jazz, ballet, and modern dance. Wendy's teaching career spans over 30 years including jazz, ballet, choreography and floor barre'. Wendy relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2001. Wendy is certified in Pilates with Body Arts Science International.

Kim Burris began studying movement at the age of five as a dancer, and then a competitive gymnast. For most of the 90's she had been flying as an airline pilot. After being diagnosed with MS in 2001, she began learning Pilates, and earned her Stott certification in 2002. She then returned to flying and taught Pilates on the side. In May of 2007 she began to find the airline schedule too demanding with her MS symptoms and focused on teaching Pilates and caring for her health. Since March 2008 she has been the co-owner of The Pilates Body in Old Town Tacoma. Kim has also studied Yamuna Body rolling in Seattle and Vancouver B.C. and has become a Yamuna practitioner. She has also received her BASI certification and continues to teach Yoga, Pilates and Yamuna Body Rolling.

Kristi Galante moved to Gig Harbor from Baton Rouge, Louisiana in July of 2008. Her husband’s position as the Associate Director of Choral Activities at Pacific Lutheran University brought them to Washington, and they are thrilled to live in such a beautiful part of the country. They have two active boys, ages 10 and 7. Kristi holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from Louisiana State University and currently teaches private voice lessons in her home studio. Kristi has always enjoyed group exercise classes, including Pilates, but was thrilled to discover Body Pump a few years ago in Louisiana. Her love of music and rhythm drew her to the class, and the camaraderie with the other participants made her keep coming back. She was finally able to lose those extra pregnancy pounds and felt stronger and more energetic. After a little encouragement, she was very excited to get certified so she could share the same Body Pump experience that she has enjoyed.

Kelly Lucas discovered Pilates in 2005 at The Pilates Body and has been addicted ever since! She earned her teaching certification from Body Arts and Science International and loves sharing Pilates with others! Seeing her client's progression is the ultimate reward of teaching. She earned a BA in Business from the University of Maryland, and has worked in marketing, management and sales in both the beauty and floral industries. Kelly is a Tacoma native but has lived all over the world following her husband's military career. Kelly and her family moved to Gig Harbor in 2003. In her spare time she loves to spend time traveling with her husband, reading, gardening, and spending quality time with her son Ryan, her girlfriends and her two dogs Biscotti and Maya. Kelly hopes to continue to enhance her instruction and to share the benefits and love of Pilates with many others for many years to come!

Amy Marino moved from Anchorage Alaska to the south sound to attend school at Pacific Lutheran University in 1991. After years of gymnastic and dance, she found her love for Pilates in 2003 when she moved out to Gig Harbor and started sessions with Lianne at The Pilates Body Movement Studio. Three years of taking classes inspired her to get her teaching certification thru Body Arts and Science in 2007.

Kristy Walker earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Central Washington University, and works full time as a Territory Manager for Follett Higher Education Group. In 2004 Kristy's doctor advised her to strengthen her abdominal muscles to relieve severe lower back pain. She began taking Pilates classes at the Gig Harbor studio and within 12 months the pain was completely gone and she was addicted to Pilates. Kristy completed her B.A.S.I. certification in September 2009 and enjoys sharing her love for Pilates by teaching part time.

Sandy Small is a certified ACE fitness instructor. Originally from Wisconsin, Sandy has been teaching fitness classes for over 25 years and has been living in the Northwest for the last 22 years. Her love for dance and movement has spurred her into getting certifications in Zumba, Body Jam (a dance oriented class by Les Mills), Body Pump and Kickboxing. Sandy also coaches a program called "Body Camp Challenge" which is similar to "The Biggest Loser". Sandy's passion is to have participants achieve their fitness goals and have fun doing it! Sandy is also a full time real estate agent for John L. Scott Real Estate in Port Orchard.

Megan Johnson graduated from Stephens College in 1988 with a bachelors degree in communications. After starting a family, she was a substitute teacher and it was then she found her interest in teaching physical fitness. In 2005 Megan taught PE full time at Charles Wright Academy. There, she also coached both cross country and track. Currently Megan teaches elementary PE at Gig Harbor Academy as well as various group fitness classes in the community. Megan participates in fun runs with the 1/2 marathon as her favorite event. She is a certified Less Mills instructor trained in the disciplines of RPM and Body Pump. Megan looks forward to helping you achieve your fitness goals at Pilates Body.

Jennifer Irigoyen is a Tacoma native who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art at the University of Washington, Tacoma. She started practicing pilates in Seattle in 2001, and became instantly hooked when she experienced benefits such as better posture, improved physique and increased energy. After practicing a variety styles she found BASI to be the best fit for her. Jennifer was eager to share this passion with others, so she began the BASI certification program. Since becoming a mother, she has realized that children could also benefit from practicing pilates. She plans to include children in her future practice. Jennifer strives not only to be a compassionate teacher but to be a lifetime student; so in addition to taking weekly private sessions, she makes sure to visit a local pilates studio when traveling.

Lori McNeil Lori has been teaching Pilates since 2007. She was first exposed to Pilates as an alternative to a standard "Gym" workout, routine. Lori considered teaching but it was not until her Pilates instructor was no longer able to teach that she decided to get certified in an effort to continue his work; changing the bodies and lives of the people fortunate enough to have been exposed its benefits. While pursuing her BASI certification, Lori taught on a part time bases as a second job for several years and was amazed by how Pilates could not only create a fit body but a pain free body. In 2009 Lori was in a devastating motorcycle accident leaving her unable to walk for 5 months. Once she was able to walk again she decided to make Pilates her main career path. Lori experienced first hand, how her previous Pilates work contributed in her recovery. She knew that Pilates would be a part of her everyday life, forever. She wanted to share with others, her education, experience and compassion for injuries, aches, pains and general desire to live a "Free" existence; moving and living a pain free and fit life.
